Schools are often so busy concentrating on teaching the content of the National Curriculum that there is often little devoted to help students to learn how to learn. However, helping students to develop ways to make learning easier and more effective is important for their future success. Certainly when it comes to revising for examinations, it is difficult for some students to know where to start and how exactly to make the best use of the time they have to revise.
We run sessions that help students to make learning active and to use ways of revising that increase their chances of recalling information. Sessions typically of an hour’s duration can be planned into a school day in a way that everyone in a year group can attend.
We also run very different sessions for schools on how to use cartooning skills in the classroom. These are unique workshops developed by Graham where he teaches the skills of cartooning and show how these can be applied in for learning.
He works directly with students and children to teach cartoon drawing skills that can then be applied in their everyday school work to enhance learning. These skills are especially useful in making information memorable so are a great help when revising for examinations.
Graham also works with teachers on cartooning skills. The aim this time is to help them to develop the skills of being able to draw a quick symbol or simple image that will help to convey an idea. So this is adding to their toolbox of practical teaching skills and techniques.
